Free resources

Free cards to print tonight.

A gift, to get you started.

Home-grownSet 1 of 4

Print at actual size on card of 210 gsm or heavier, both sides, flipping on the long edge. Each file has the cards, their backs and a page of steps. The kids cards print on paper or thin card. The Halloween kids cards come in the same file as the twelve, as cards 13 to 18.

Or skip the printer. Real cards are better in person: have two or six Home-grown cards posted to you or a friend in New Zealand, and support the movement.

To help you colour

Our free colour guides, to print and keep beside you: how to choose colours that sit well together, and a guide to the Home-grown plants for the days you want to colour true to life.

And for the keen, Fledge, our free colour wheel. Open it on your phone and turn it to any colour to see what goes with it, or open the colours for each Home-grown card, while you colour.

What you need

Any coloured pencils, a white pencil, a sharpener and a fine black pen. A stamp. If you are printing at home, smooth white card of 210 gsm or heavier.

No printer? A copy shop will print the cards for you on 300 or 350 gsm card.

Stamps and post, country by country
  • New Zealand. Your post office sells stamps, and on a rural delivery route the driver will sell you stamps at the gate. A postcard goes for one stamp, and so does a card in an envelope with a blank one tucked in beside it. Sending one overseas costs a little more, so ask at the counter.
  • United States. A card this size goes at the letter rate. Stamps from the post office, its official website, and most grocery stores and pharmacies. For printing, 80 lb cover or heavier.
  • United Kingdom. Postcards go at the letter rate, first or second class. Stamps from the post office, its official website, supermarkets and newsagents.
  • Australia. A postcard counts as a small letter. Buy stamps from a post office or its official website, because stamps sold elsewhere risk being counterfeit.
  • Canada. Send it as a postcard or a standard letter. Stamps from a post office or its online store. For printing, 80 lb cover or heavier.
  • Ireland. The national letter or postcard rate applies. Stamps from a post office, its official website, or as a digital stamp in its app.
  • Germany. The Postkarte rate applies. Stamps from a post office, its official website, or as a mobile stamp in its app.

Places we trust

Printing your downloaded cards? These are the places we trust and recommend.

  • Hamilton Print & Graphics, Hamilton. Des and his friendly team will print your Marlo Wren cards just the way we do.
Where to see the birds, and find supplies near you

Tell us where you are and we will guide you where to see these creatures and where to find supplies.

We are asking each place before we name it here. Email [email protected] with your area and we will point you to the nearest.

None of these arrangements earn us anything, we just want the introduction to be right.

All of this works on any blank card you already own.
